Sometimes change begins
simply with perspective.

This is the story behind MOTAS for Kids.

What we stand for

Our mission and vision form the basis of everything we do, now and in the future.

Our mission

Creating a stable and stimulating learning environment where children can grow, learn and develop.Creating a stable and stimulating learning environment for children.

Together with local schools, parents and communities, we provide practical resources and better learning environments. We listen to what is needed and work step by step towards achievable improvements.Together with schools, parents and communities. Step by step.

Our vision

Where a child grows up should not decide the opportunities they get.

We believe in long-term involvement rather than one-off help. By working together with the people who know the children best, we are building a future in which every child gets a good start. That is why we choose long-term involvement over one-off help.

How do we work?

1.We listen first

We do not start with a plan, but with conversations. Together with head teachers, teachers, parents and children, we map out what is really needed.

2.We put local partners at the centre

Schools and communities know their children best. They help decide what takes priority, and we build on that.

3.We work in achievable steps

Together we choose improvements that are realistic and affordable, within our education programme and reconstruction programme. Better small and done well than big and unfinished.

4.We monitor progress

We stay in touch with the schools and look together at whether it works. Through updates and stories, we show you what happens with your support.

5.We stay involved

Not a one-off gift, but a long-term presence. That is how we build trust and grow together with the schools in Cañete.

Our history

MOTAS for Kids did not just appear out of nowhere. It is a story that has been passed down through the generations.

1Where it began

A father with a heart for Peru

It began in the 1990s. On his own initiative, Hans Mollen, now treasurer of our foundation, started children's projects in Peru. For years he provided school supplies, which many Peruvian schools sorely lack. He was already doing this before he fell in love with his Peruvian wife.

During family visits he took his sons along to these projects, among them Gerardo Mollen, now our chair. It made a deep impression and set something in motion.

2Building on it

A new generation takes up the baton

At the age of fourteen, Gerardo Mollen decided to build on what his father had started. With Peruvian roots and that example in mind, the idea for MOTAS was born.

Combining an attractive product with a social mission, with the foundation as its moral cornerstone. It started in 2019 with sustainable bags. We no longer sell them, but the ambition has remained: step by step, we are building a strong social business model.

3Where we are now

A young foundation with a solid base

In August 2026 we made an introductory visit to Cañete. We built relationships with five schools in four villages, delivered school and sports supplies and talked with head teachers, parents and children.

We are now working with these schools on the next steps, within our education programme and reconstruction programme.

We are starting in Cañete, where our roots lie. Where we can give even more children a good start in the future is something we will discover step by step.
