Room to
grow.

Together with local schools, our reconstruction programme creates safe, pleasant classrooms and schoolyards.

A good learning environment is more than a classroom with four walls. In many schools in Cañete, where we currently work, furniture, toilets and facilities are outdated or missing altogether. That makes learning and playing harder than it needs to be.

With our reconstruction programme, we work with local schools to improve the physical learning environment. Always in consultation with head teachers, teachers and parents. We first listen to what is needed most, and then work step by step on achievable improvements.

What the reconstruction programme makes possible

  • New or refurbished school furniture, so that children can sit and work comfortably and healthily.
  • Improved toilets and washrooms, for a clean and safe school.
  • School kitchens where healthy meals can be prepared.
  • Canopies that protect children from sun and rain, so that they can play and do sport outdoors.
  • School gardens where children learn about nature, food and sustainability.
  • Furnishing classrooms so that they invite children to learn.

Who is the reconstruction programme for?

The reconstruction programme is for primary schools in Peru where the learning environment needs improving. We currently work in Cañete, together with five schools in four villages.

Children

They get a safe, clean and pleasant place to learn, play and grow.

Teachers

They can teach in classrooms that are better equipped and make more possible.

Schools and parents

Together with them, we choose what is needed first. That way, the school remains in the hands of the community itself.

This is how, together with the schools in Cañete, we are building step by step towards a good start for every child.
