Headteacher Osorio

Meet Señor Osorio: an inspiring headteacher

Pacarán, Peru

Gerardo and Señor Osorio in the school playground

Every morning, Señor Osorio stands at the school gate to greet his pupils. To him, school is more than a place to learn: it is the place where children discover who they can become.

Every morning at the gate

Señor Osorio has been a headteacher in Cañete for years. He knows the families, knows which children have a long journey to school and notices straight away when someone is having a difficult day. ‘A child who feels welcome is happy to come to school,’ he says. That is why his day does not begin behind a desk, but at the gate.

Working with MOTAS

Señor Osorio was one of the first people the MOTAS for Kids Foundation worked with in Cañete. Together they looked at what his school needed most. Not what had been thought up from the outside, but what teachers and parents themselves said. This led to new learning materials and to work on a safer place to learn and play.

If you show children that someone believes in them, they start to believe in themselves. That is what education is all about.

What lies ahead

Señor Osorio looks beyond today. He dreams of a school where every child gets the chance to learn, play and grow. Together with MOTAS, he is working towards that dream step by step.

“Every day I see how much our children are capable of. They deserve to really be given those chances.”

For Señor Osorio and his pupils. A good start for every child.
