Headteacher Soledad

One big family: how Señora Soledad sees the children at her school

Catapalla, Peru

Portrait of Señora Soledad

Señora Soledad is the headteacher of her school, but you are just as likely to find her in front of a class. To her, the children are not pupils, but family. And you are always there for family.

Headteacher and teacher

Señora Soledad’s school does not have enough teachers. It is a problem that many schools in the region know well. Señora Soledad does not leave it at that. She trained as a teacher herself, so alongside her work as headteacher, she also simply teaches classes.

Becoming headteacher was not a step up the ladder for her. She took on the role because she truly loves her school and her children. She wants the school to keep running, whatever happens.

A warm welcome

Anyone who walks into the school notices it straight away. Señora Soledad is incredibly friendly and has a smile and a kind word for everyone. She knows the children by name and knows what is on their minds. That is why, for many children, the school feels like a second home.

A school is more than classrooms and books. It is a place where children feel safe and loved.

Together for the best

Señora Soledad wants only one thing: the best for her children. She talks with the MOTAS for Kids Foundation about what the school needs. No one knows better than she does where the needs lie. Together we look at how we can support her and her team, so that the warmth and the sense of home remain and every child gets the chance to grow.

“When our children smile, I know we are doing a good job.”

A school that feels like a warm home. A good start for every child.
