Run for Kids: running for a good start

Belgium

Gerardo and three friends in Run for Kids shirts with their medals

Our chair, Gerardo, pulled on the Run for Kids shirt together with three friends. They ran the National Park Marathon in Belgium and raised money for children in Cañete along the way.

An idea becomes a fundraiser

It started with a simple question: how can we use something we enjoy to make a difference for someone else? Gerardo and his friends decided to run a marathon. They called their fundraiser Run for Kids and asked family, friends and colleagues to sponsor them.

Months of training

Training started weeks in advance. Early mornings, long runs at the weekend and motivating each other when the going got tough. ‘In the hard moments, we thought of the children in Cañete,’ says Gerardo.

We didn’t run every kilometre just for ourselves, but for the children we support. That gave us the strength to keep going.

Across the finish line

On the day of the National Park Marathon, they crossed the finish line together, with a medal around their necks and a smile from ear to ear. The money they raised supports the programmes of the MOTAS for Kids Foundation in Cañete.

“You don’t have to be a marathon runner to make a difference. Anyone can take action.”

Anyone can take action. A good start for every child.
