How Nicoll found her enthusiasm again through sport

For a long time, Nicoll preferred to sit quietly on the sidelines. When new sports equipment arrived at her school, that slowly began to change. At first she watched cautiously, but before long she was joining in with everything.
On the sidelines
During PE lessons, Nicoll often stood a little apart. There were only a few balls and the older children always went first. ‘I preferred to watch,’ she says. Her teacher noticed that she was becoming quieter and enjoying school less.
New balls, new chances
Through the Education programme of the MOTAS for Kids Foundation, the school received new sports equipment: balls, hoops and skipping ropes. Suddenly there was enough for everyone. The teacher came up with games in which every child got a turn, Nicoll included.
At first I didn’t dare. Now I always want to get the ball first. Skipping is my favourite!
More than sport
Her teacher has noticed that Nicoll has not only changed in the playground. In class she puts her hand up more often and plays more with other children. Sport gave her self-confidence, and she takes it with her wherever she goes.
